  • A Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registration D-ABPQ, suffered a nose landing gear collapse on June 4, 2026, around 12:45 local time at Frankfurt Airport. The aircraft was stationary at the gate and attached to the jet bridge when the nose gear unexpectedly retracted, causing the front of the plane to drop onto the apron. Crew members and ground personnel were on board at the time; no passengers were present. The flight, LH450 to Los Angeles, was cancelled, and the aircraft sustained substantial damage to its nose area. This particular Dreamliner was one of the airline's newest jets, delivered in January 2026 and entering service in February 2026. Lufthansa will collaborate with German authorities on an investigation to ascertain the cause of the gear failure, acknowledging that it is too early for a technical explanation. The incident removes a widebody aircraft from Lufthansa's fleet, which has faced capacity constraints due to delivery delays.
