Thumbnail
A voluntary recall has been initiated for Nara Organics Powdered Infant Formula following hospitalizations of three infants diagnosed with infant botulism after consuming the product. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are involved in the investigation.
  • Product and Distribution: The recalled product is Nara Organics Powdered Infant Formula, specifically whole milk powdered formula. It was sold at Target stores nationwide, Target.com, and Nara.com. The formula was not distributed outside the United States.
  • Health Impact: Three infants, one each from California, Washington, and Pennsylvania, were hospitalized after consuming the formula and were diagnosed with infant botulism. All three infants have since been treated successfully, and no deaths have been reported.
  • Recall Details: While no recalled lots have tested positive for Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria causing infant botulism, the company is recalling all whole milk powdered infant formula products out of an abundance of caution. The specific lot numbers of concern are 709125280E14F2, 709125288E14F2, and 708125174E14F2.
  • Consumer Guidance: Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the affected products. Refunds are being offered through Nara.com for purchases made between May and June 2026, and for other Nara.com purchases upon request. Customers who bought the product at Target can return it to the store or seek a refund via Target's website.
  • Infant Botulism: Infant botulism is caused by the colonization of the intestinal tract by Clostridium botulinum spores, leading to the growth of neurotoxins. Symptoms can include constipation, poor feeding, difficulty breathing, and generalized weakness, and the condition can be fatal.
