The Democratic Republic of Congo is experiencing a significant increase in confirmed Ebola cases, with a substantial rise in the last 24 hours. The outbreak is largely concentrated in the eastern provinces but has recently spread to new health zones.
- Confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo have reached 782.
- This includes 72 new cases reported in a single 24-hour period, marking one of the largest daily increases during the current outbreak.
- As of the latest government report, 181 deaths have been confirmed.
- The outbreak, the nation's 17th, is currently contained within three eastern provinces: Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu.
- However, confirmed cases have been identified for the first time in the Nia-Nia health zone in Ituri and the Mabalako health zone in North Kivu.
- This brings the total number of affected health zones to 20 out of 36 in Ituri and 10 out of 34 in North Kivu.
