A volunteer EMS squad in Hunterdon County, the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad, has dedicated a new ambulance to honor two of its deceased members, former NJ.com reporter Matt Arco and Spring Pittore. The ceremony recognized their significant contributions and dedication to community service.
- The Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad unveiled a new ambulance named in memory of former NJ.com reporter Matt Arco and fellow volunteer Spring Pittore. Over 70 friends, family, and colleagues attended the event, which was held at the squad's headquarters.
- Squad president Lisa Aron stated that honoring Arco and Pittore with the ambulance name was fitting, emphasizing their impactful service and continued influence on the squad's identity.
- The dedication occurred on Memorial Day weekend, with squad chaplain Michael Dessoye drawing parallels between battlefield heroism and the everyday heroism of EMS volunteers, like Arco and Pittore, who provide comfort and care in critical moments.
- Matt Arco, an award-winning journalist known for covering New Jersey politics and former Governor Chris Christie, died suddenly at age 39. He received a National Press Club award and a Shorty Award nomination for his reporting. The New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists also renamed an award in his honor.
- Spring Pittore, a school nurse and canine search and rescue specialist, passed away at 67. Her extensive service included being a first responder for the World Trade Center 9/11 attack with her K9 partner, serving as the squad's K9 Unit Leader, and holding leadership roles in search and rescue dog associations.
- Both Arco and Pittore were remembered for their deep commitment to helping others and their positive impact on the community. Donations in their memory can be made to the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad.
