The WHO South-East Asia Region (SEAR) held a kick-off meeting for the 2026 Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Partnership Contribution (PC). This initiative aims to bolster the implementation of the approved 2026-2027 PIP PC strategy. The meeting focused on enhancing global preparedness for influenza pandemics through collaborative efforts and resource allocation.
  • The meeting emphasized the critical need for coordinated action in pandemic influenza preparedness. Key discussions revolved around strengthening surveillance systems, laboratory capacities, and the rapid development and deployment of vaccines and therapeutics. The PIP PC is designed to ensure equitable access to these vital resources, particularly for low- and middle-income countries.
  • Participants reviewed progress on ongoing PIP PC projects and identified areas requiring further attention and investment. The strategy promotes collaboration between countries, international organizations, and the private sector to build resilient health systems capable of responding effectively to influenza outbreaks.
  • The meeting also addressed the importance of fostering innovation in influenza vaccine and antiviral development. By pooling resources and expertise, the SEAR aims to accelerate the availability of safe and effective countermeasures against emerging influenza strains, thereby reducing the global burden of influenza.
