Ripped jeans have become a bit of a
fashion staple in the last few years. Whether it’s just a bit of weathering at the knees or almost half the jeans missing at the thighs, you’ll see
ripped jeans in every shop right now. But what happens when you rip a perfectly good pair of jeans that you didn’t want ripped? Never fear! With some quick crafting skills and
sewing know-how, you can make lemons out of lemonade and transform your jeans into a one of a kind
fashion statement. Here are some creative ways to fix your
ripped jeans:
• Patching with denim – If you want to bring less attention to the rip, try patching it with similar-coloured denim. This is a tried and true method, and scrap denim can be found cheaply at thrift stores and fabric shops.
• Patching with contrasting fabric – For a creative twist, try
sewing a swatch of different fabric underneath the rip, or create a patch on top. This will give your jeans a funky, unique look.
• Embroidery – For small rips and tears, consider embroidery. You can match the thread to the jean colour, or embroider a cute flower or shape.
• Sashiko Mending – This is a type of visible mending from Japan. Rather than trying to hide the rip,
Sashiko Mending embraces the rip and uses it to create something beautiful. There are many tutorials on YouTube and Pinterest that you can follow.
