Mindfulness is often talked about when we want to reduce
stress, however this is just one of its many benefits. Simply put,
mindfulness is being aware of what’s happening in the present moment, without judging your experience or needing to change it. This may seem obvious, however we can so often be living with our bodies in one place and our thoughts in another. But when you’re being mindful, you remove yourself from your chattering thoughts and become more aware, both of your own body and what’s around you.
Some of the main benefits of
mindfulness meditation include:
1. Improving your mental health – Mindfulness is a great tool for a healthy mind and mood. It teaches us to step back from our thoughts and observe them without judgement, and to observe the impact that they have. This can lessen the power of negative/anxious/depressive thoughts.
2. Changing your habits – By using
mindfulness to increase awareness, we begin to see patterns and triggers that cause unwanted behaviour. Being aware is the first step to changing your habits for good.
3. Improving cognitive function – Studies have shown that practicing
mindfulness meditation can improve cognitive function and help prevent mental decline as we age.
4. Helping you be more productive at work –
Mindfulness can increase confidence, focus and creativity at work, allowing for a more efficient work day.
