Spring is my favourite season, mainly because I absolutely adore fresh flowers. I always feel a little sad when Spring is over, however getting into pressing flowers has helped me keep the season going all year long! Pressed blooms and petals can be used to make pressed flower art, crafts, greeting cards, gifts and decorations. Here’s my favourite method for pressing flowers:

A heavy book

A brick or rock

Cardboard

Newspaper

Tissue Paper

Fresh flowers

1. Cut your cardboard so it is the same dimensions as your book. Lay a page of newspaper on top of the cardboard, then a piece of tissue paper.

2. Cut the stems off the flowers then place them on the tissue paper, ensuring that they don’t touch each other or hang over the sides. Add another layer of tissue paper, then newspaper, then cardboard. Repeat until you’ve used up all the flowers.

3. Place the book and brick/stone on top of the stack of papers. The drying process takes 2-4 weeks, so check the petals after 2 weeks.

TIP – Try to pick your flowers on a dry day (this will help with moisture control). Any flowers can be pressed, however flowers with large, flat petals work best.
