Your
lips are an incredibly important part of your body, however it’s very easy to neglect them in your daily skincare routine.
Lips don’t have oil or sweat glands and are exposed to a whole bunch of things; food, drink, weather, beauty products, the list goes on. Here are some handy tips to keep your
lips healthy:
• Drink plenty of water – Staying hydrated is perhaps the most important thing you can do for your lip
health. It is recommended that you drink at least 2 litres of water a day. This will keep your
lips hydrated and prevent chapping.
• Make sure you’re getting enough Vitamin E –
Vitamin E helps to protect your cells from damage and boosts skin elasticity. It will help your
lips stay moisturised and can reduce swelling.
• Protect your lips from UV rays – The skin on your
lips is delicate and very prone to burning. It’s important to wear sunscreen all over, but
lips are especially important. Using sunscreen or
lip balm with an SPF rating will protect your
lips from sunburn and skin cancer.
• Avoid habits like licking your lips and breathing through your mouth – These both dry out
lips and cause chapping and cracking.
• Check the ingredients in your lip balm – Make sure your
lip balm has a paraffin or beeswax base. Some common ingredients in certain lip balms (like salicylic acid) will dry your
lips out, so make sure you always check the ingredients.
