Severe Thunderstorms Prompt Ground Stops At DMV Airports
Patch
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Severe thunderstorms are causing significant disruptions to air travel in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Ground stops have been implemented at three major airports serving the region due to the incoming severe weather.
Severe thunderstorms are the primary cause of the ground stops at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
These ground stops are effective until 5 p.m.
The measure is a safety precaution to manage the impact of the severe weather on airport operations and air traffic.
Travelers are advised to check their flight status with their respective airlines.
