Iran claims it struck an unmanned U.S. vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. military has denied this claim, stating it is untrue.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it successfully targeted and destroyed an unmanned U.S. reconnaissance ship. They allege the vessel was attempting to infiltrate the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state media broadcast footage purported to be of the incident, showing a drone-like object being fired upon. The IRGC stated that its forces acted to prevent the ship from passing through.
However, the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, which operates in the region, refuted Iran's assertion. A spokesperson for the Fifth Fleet described Iran's claim as a "total lie" and confirmed no U.S. unmanned vessels were struck.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, making any maritime incidents in the area highly significant. This exchange highlights ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States.
