LaGuardia Airport AI hologram answers traveler questions

Thumbnail
LaGuardia Airport's Terminal B has introduced Bridget, a life-sized AI hologram designed to assist travelers with wayfinding and information. This initiative aims to reduce stress by offering conversational assistance for queries about gates, shops, baggage claim, and lounges, along with real-time directions.
  • Bridget is a hyper-realistic AI hologram developed through a collaboration between Proto and Holomedia's AI Concierge Wayfinder platform, located near the Terminal B Food Hall. It allows travelers to ask natural language questions, receiving answers and step-by-step directions via dynamic terminal maps. The system currently supports English and Spanish, with plans for more languages, and includes accessibility features like on-screen subtitles and a wheelchair-accessible interface.
  • LaGuardia Gateway Partners, which manages Terminal B, positions Bridget as supplementary support for the guest experience team, especially during busy periods, rather than a replacement for human staff. This technology is intended to enhance the traveler experience through innovation and hospitality. Similar AI holographic assistants have also been implemented at Miami International Airport, highlighting a broader trend of airports exploring AI tools to improve passenger navigation and reduce confusion within terminals.
  • The effectiveness of such AI assistants hinges on their ability to provide clear, accurate answers and directions, thereby supporting airport staff and ensuring a seamless travel experience. While the technology offers potential benefits for traveler convenience and accessibility, particularly for straightforward wayfinding, ongoing user judgment will determine its success. Concerns regarding privacy and the need for access to human assistance for complex issues remain pertinent as airports increasingly adopt AI solutions.
