A 21-year-old Brazilian student, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, died after a fatal bungee jump from an unfinished bridge. The incident occurred due to a presumed failure to attach her safety rope during an unlicensed jump. The local mayor has highlighted the company's long-standing issues and the lack of safety measures at the site.
- Three staff members from the bungee jumping company have been charged with homicide in connection with the student's death. Her mother expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of her daughter, describing the "damned rope" as the cause of her permanent separation. The location of the accident, known as "Skeleton Bridge," is an unfinished railway bridge that has become a venue for unregulated extreme sports. This site had previously witnessed another fatality in April 2024, involving a cyclist. The mayor of Limeira has criticized the Federal Government for its inaction regarding the known risks and lack of safety controls at the federal area, stating that this failure has led to another tragedy.
