Boeing Stock Gains As Singapore Airlines, Qantas Reportedly Eye Major Wide-Body Jet Orders

Thumbnail
Two major Asia-Pacific airlines, Singapore Airlines and Qantas, are reportedly in separate, significant negotiations with aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus. These discussions involve potential large orders for new long-haul aircraft, signaling expansion plans for both carriers.
  • Singapore Airlines is in early talks to acquire at least 50 wide-body passenger jets, considering the Boeing 777X and Airbus A350-1000. This potential order aligns with the airline's strategy for substantial growth in the coming decade, aiming to increase capacity.
  • Qantas Airways is also evaluating a separate order for approximately 20 wide-body aircraft, specifically looking at the Boeing 787 Dreamliner or the Airbus A350. This move is part of their ongoing fleet modernization and renewal strategy to phase out older aircraft.
  • Both Boeing and Airbus have declined to comment on these multi-billion-dollar negotiations. Qantas stated that such communications with manufacturers are routine for fleet management, with no official updates to announce.
