Young people worldwide explore their Jewish heritage for ANU program

Thumbnail
The "My Family Story" program, a global initiative at the ANU – Museum of the Jewish People, concluded its annual event celebrating young people's exploration of their heritage. Hundreds of students from 31 countries participated, showcasing the power of personal narratives to connect diverse Jewish communities and cultures worldwide. The program aims to foster an understanding of individual stories within the broader tapestry of Jewish history.
  • The closing ceremony, held virtually, featured participants from across the globe and was conducted in English with translations into multiple languages. Arkia sponsored the event and provided airline tickets for winners and their families. Winning projects will be archived digitally and displayed at the ANU Museum, contributing to a growing collection of Jewish family histories.
  • First-place winners included Alex Alush (Hebrew) for a project detailing his great-grandmother's survival of the Holocaust; Sarah Sitton Massri (Spanish) for a sensory exploration of her Syrian Jewish merchant heritage; Daniel Voloshchuk (Russian) for a handmade project examining silences in Jewish family archives; and Aaron Lévy (French) for a board game titled "Our Roots Journey," which encapsulates his family's North African heritage and migrations. Another notable project featured a tzedakah box inspired by a great-grandmother's resilience and a family tradition of philanthropy.
