Washington State Ferries is implementing a new pet policy on July 1 to regulate animal presence on vessels. This policy follows a six-week educational period for passengers and aims to clarify rules regarding where pets can and cannot be.
- Pets on Washington State Ferries must be leashed at all times and are prohibited from indoor food service areas and galleys.
- Animals are not allowed on seats or tables, and designated areas within indoor passenger cabins will be off-limits.
- Large dogs must remain on the floor, while small dogs can be on laps or in carriers. All other pets require a crate or carrier.
- Service animals are exempt and permitted in all public areas as per state and federal law.
- Ferry crew can relocate pets if they misbehave or pose a safety risk, and owners are responsible for their pet's behavior and cleanup.
- Staff are authorized to inquire about service animals' status and training.
