Chia seeds have become a popular
health food in the last few decades – and for good reason! They’re high in omega-3 fats, fibre, protein and zinc, which all support brain function, bones, heart and a healthy digestive system.
Chia seeds are a great addition to any healthy
diet, but if you’re anything like me, you may be at a bit of a loss as to how to use them.
To help you out, I’ve put together a list of fun and creative ways to use
chia seeds in your kitchen:
• Smoothies/
smoothie bowls – This is my favourite way to eat
chia seeds! You can either sprinkle them on top or blend them with your
smoothie ingredients to make a thicker consistency. I personally like the added texture of the
chia seeds when sprinkled on.
• With porridge –
Chia seeds give porridge a slight nutty flavour, which is a big tick in my book. I like to mix rolled oats with
chia seeds, almond milk, yogurt, blueberries and a dash of honey.
• On cereal – In the summer (when I don’t feel like hot porridge for breakfast!) I like to sprinkle
chia seeds on my muesli. Keep in mind that some brands of muesli already come with
chia seeds.
•
Chia pudding – If you haven’t had
chia pudding yet, you’re missing out! Simply add
chia seeds to coconut milk, vanilla extract, honey and cinnamon and leave in the fridge overnight. You can also add
chia seeds to other baked goods like muffins, pancakes and bread – the only limit is your imagination!
• In sauces and salad dressings –
Chia seeds are amazing for thickening up sauces and salad dressings. They can also add texture when needed (try with an apple cider vinegar base).
