Atlanta Hawks coach Quin Snyder has signed a multiyear contract extension following a playoff appearance against the Knicks. Despite trading Trae Young, the team showed improvement, achieving a respectable regular season record and net rating.
- Quin Snyder, the 59-year-old coach, secured a new contract with the Atlanta Hawks. This extension comes after the Hawks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the New York Knicks in a six-game series. The Hawks finished the regular season with a 46-36 record, securing the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. Notably, they held a 2-1 series lead against the Knicks before the Knicks won three consecutive games, initiating a winning streak that extended to the NBA Finals. During the season, the Hawks traded away four-time All-Star Trae Young but acquired Nickeil Alexander-Walker in a sign-and-trade deal, which reportedly bolstered their defense and altered their team's direction. Atlanta’s regular season net rating ranked 12th overall in the league, surpassing that of the Los Angeles Lakers. The team is focused on developing young talent, such as Jalen Johnson, who earned All-NBA third-team honors. The Hawks made strategic moves at the trade deadline, enabling them to compete effectively in the postseason against the eventual Eastern Conference champions. Snyder, who took over in February 2023 after Nate McMillan's mid-season dismissal, had previously coached the Utah Jazz for eight years after serving as a Hawks assistant.
